Keto Success

Keto Success

My Current Keto Status

After six months I had achieved success with my keto goals and I am still on it. The focus is still to get my salads in both my meals. Since being on the diet I have been less bloated, digesting foods much better and avoiding inflammation. To be honest I think carbs produce a lot of inflammation for me, so eating good foods have really improved my health.

What’s really strange is that my cravings for sugary sweets and fresh bread are really under control. Recently I bought fresh bread and hot cross buns for my kids and the aroma was just unreal. Yet as much as I could feel and smell the fluffy texture I simply moved on and didn’t eat any. And for me that’s saying a lot because I could dust off a six pack of fresh hot cross buns layered with butter in minutes.

I am still doing intermittent fasting and have my first meal around 12pm to 1pm. The only change I have made is that I have an electrolyte drink in the morning. Over time I’ve adapted to intermittent fasting and it’s much easier to not have my first meal until lunch time. What’s really interesting is that on busy days I might have my first meal mid-afternoon and not have hunger pains or cravings. It’s like my body is able to run off my body fat as fuel instead of relying on ingested foods. That may sound crazy but that’s the only reason I can think of that enables me to do that.

My Impressions Of Keto

Based on my experiences and results I believe that keto works. I’m also leaning towards keto being more of a lifestyle change than a weight loss diet. The focus is on making the body healthy first before you lose the weight. Our bodies are accustomed to eating foods that are high in carbohydrates and sugars and they are wreaking havoc on our health. Keto focuses on eating healthy foods that provide all the key nutrients, vitamins and minerals that your body needs without the sugars and excessive carbs.

I really really strongly suggest that before you start, you must do your research. It’s really important that you have a solid understanding of exactly what keto is and how it works. Knowing how it works makes it so much easier to be prepared when you start and also understand why you need to follow the guidelines. I also suggest watching Jason Wittrock’s brief video on the top 5 keto mistakes before you start because he gives some excellent key points to help you keep focused on your goals and sticking to keto.

I truly believe that my weight loss results are due to the combination of keto, intermittent fasting and exercise. I believe this is a powerful combination. Keto and intermittent fasting work well to help keep your body in ketosis. Exercise helps your body to not just burn fat but also strengthen muscles and joints for a healthier body. Again consult your doctor to check if changes to your diet and exercise program are suitable for you. But for me personally, this combination is what has been successful for me.

In Summary

We are all shaped by our individual circumstances and upbringings. Each of us will have varying physical health challenges that we each have to face and address. For some changing our eating habits and lifestyles can be very easy and for some it can be very difficult. Regardless of what your challenges are, if you have a desire to make changes you can do it!

You will need to make some serious changes like giving up sugar and a bunch of foods that you love. To be honest it will be brutal at first as your body becomes keto adaptive. After years of surviving on sugars and carbs your body will be transitioning its energy source to ketones. However you will be surprised that once you make the transition your body won’t crave those sugary foods. There are other benefits too. I’ve noticed improved energy levels, better mental clarity, better skin, less inflammation and of course weight loss.

I started keto in September 2017 at 99kg, got to my weight goal of 85kg in 3 months and currently sit at 80kg in just over 6 months. My waist has decreased from 92cm to 86cm. I’ve lost almost 20kg and 6cm in 6 months but more importantly I feel so much better and healthier.
